Vino, comida y reir

...Crete is the largest and most popular of the Greek islands, the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crete
...the Bear and I spent the weekend there, with the company of some great friends...
...first we visited an amazing winery...
...this is Cretan wine country....if you look closer you will see the mountain in the background, which is the head of sleeping Zeus...
...we saw and learnt so many new things regarding wine...
...were informed of the whole process of wine making...

...and of course, we tasted some...

...the owner of the winery was very friendly and willing to show us everything....

...the Cretans are famous for their hospitality...
...we stayed at a very good friend's house who made us feel very comfortable, and provided us with every kind of luxury...
...this was the guest bathroom...

...the living room...

...I fell in love with this little gentleman, who never left my side...
...our host's bedroom...
...although, there was live in help, we wanted to go out for our meals, because Crete is famous for its good food, wine, oil, and raki (grapa)...
...Kiriakos ...a very old restaurant owned by a family, for many many years, whose quality hasn't changed since the day it opened...

...very warm and friendly atmosphere...unfortunately, I didn't manage to photograph the food because everything got eaten so fast because it was so tasty...so the fruit and the desert were the only dishes I managed to snap...

...Iraklion is the town where we stayed at....it is absolutely beautiful and well taken care of by it's mayor...
...two days after 9/11, I last visited Crete, and I must admit that this time I've seen a big change for the better...

...Greeks love to buy their newspapers on Sunday, and go to a cafe with friends, read, have coffee, gossip, and just sit there until lunch time...
...today, we bought our newspapers and sat at the cafe next to the water....

...and then, lunch time came...

..."The seven seas" restaurant is fairly new...his owner has done an excellent job with the decor, but the food is out of this world!

...because of the heat we tried to eat as light as possible...so we had salads, fish, and local dishes that were very tasty, but without sauces and spices...

...in the end the chef treated us to some fresh fruit, local yogurt and honey, and of course tons of raki!

...I liked the place so much, that I couldn't stop taking pictures...
...everything was tastefully done....even the sinks were worth photographing!

...this is the last picture I took outside our friend's apartment building...we left with happy memories filled with laughter, the love of our friends, and a promise to return soon...
... I'm back in the kitchen now, feeling very sleepy...the dog is staring at me, waiting to take her for the last walk of the day...
...tomorrow a new week is starting....live it in good health...
