Perfil bajo...

...so, I was asked to appear on a cooking show...
...I was quite excited, and to be honest I'm not new in front of the cameras...
...but this was totally a new experience....I forgot my Greek...gained my American accent....felt nervous as hell...and even said things that I shouldn't have said, like "it's very pleasurable playing with it"....meaning the dough!!!

...will I do it again?.....mmmm....maybe?
...at least next time I'll know what to expect and have a glass of wine before!

...tontita!!!!

Un dia a lado de mis dos...

....election day on the island...

...we took a day trip...

...the boat left at 7:30am with the Bear, the Angel girl and me...no pets, no baggages...

...one of the candidates who was running was a cousin of mine...well, one of my cousins...
...ok so we're all related one way or the other on this island....everybody is cousin!!!

****

...it was a sunny day...

...I have never taken you inside my village...
...it's old...both my parents were born here..
...it's very picturesque...it smells of jasmin, lemon and roses...

...I had my luvies in front and I was following behind, admiring and inhaling...

* * * *
...my aunt's house...

...these are the flowers of another aunt...
...ever since I remember, each time we would pass by her house we would yell "ooo-ooo"
and she would answer "ooo-ooo", from inside!

...on our way to the village square...

...the orange trees were full of oranges...

...everything is so quaint and so familiar to me...
...I have walked this road barefoot in the summer when I was little, got wet from playing in the little stream...

...played  cops and robbers...

* * * *
...our school...

...this is where we voted...

...the school that my parents and my brother attended...

...so many generations have played here...
...my parent's, my brother's, mine, my children's...and even now, whenever you pass by, you still hear children's voices laughing...

...inside time has stopped...

...the principle's office...

...there are only two classrooms for all 6 grades...
...my dad's teacher was a priest...
...my brother still remembers with admiration a husband and a wife team who came to teach...
...my mom first fell in love here...

* * * *
...across the street my friend Andriana inherited her grandmother's tiny house that she renovated and turned it into the cutest little nest...

...on our way back home...

....we found Frango picking oranges...

...she's the sweetest thing...every September she gives me a jar of jam that she makes especially for me...

...the weather was absolutely lovely....it made our walk back home pleasurable...

...we ended up at my brother's...

...here's my lovely sister in law, preparing tapas for our drinks...

...some friends came over and we had wine and ouzo...did I mention that the weather was lovely??!!!

...well, after a few glasses...it was time for us to leave...
...sadly we kissed everybody "good bye" and left...

...this little lady here was the star of the show...

...the results of the elections are out...my cousin unfortunately didn't win..but we do thank him for giving us the opportunity to escape from the city...

....have a wonderful week...

Atenas en la lluvia....

...It was a rainy day...

...I don't usually go down to the center of Athens...

...I'm quite comfortable in my own zip code, as the "wife" says, but when I do, I enjoy it so much because there's a strong encounter with history...Athens has kept its identity and its colours over the years, that no matter where you are you see the past drawn all over...

...these are our national library and the old university...

...the buildings have kept their outside appearance as it was 40 or 50 years ago, although the interior has been renovated...

...I don't know how many Athenians have looked up on Panepistimiou street and noticed these balconies...

...it was the perfect day for a cup of hot chocolate or tea...

...I felt like a tourist with the camera in my hand, taking pictures!

...I took refuge in here for a while, because this is the place where a lot of book stores are located...

....under the dome and Athena's watchful eye...

...most of the stores down town have a long history of maybe 100 years...

...each one has a story to tell, especially the buildings that were occupied by the Germans during the war...

...this sweet gentleman, is a shoe store owner since the early 60's...

...slowly...Christmas windows are popping up here and there, and that reminds me that I have to start baking my gingerbread houses, the first orders have already been placed...

...so I need to get into the spirit A.S.A.P.

... and while I was in the metro, I had the pleasure of meeting a lady from Serbia....she was a seamstress, who came to Greece during the war...she learned Greek, and now is learning Italian...her knowledge  in literature, she spoke of Shakespeare, her culture, her manners, her appreciation in art, impressed me so much...

...no matter the bad weather I had a wonderful day!
